Real Detachment

Srila Prabhupada said that this human society is very attached to its plan-making business. However, they fail to understand that it is not by our own endeavors that we can be successful in life. God reciprocates with our desire, but ultimately a devotee knows that God knows what is best.
Iif Krishna is merciful, He gives us what we want; if He is more merciful, then he gives us what we need. However, most often, what we need is not what we want, though we feel otherwise.

Real detachment in the school of Bhakti is not simply to give away all your possessions, sleeping under a tree, wearing only a loin cloth, and eating only what we beg from the door householders; that is an external form of detachment. The essence of detachment is not be attached to anything but that which Krishna wants. To only be attached to the desire of the spiritual master, and the Lord, and have no other attachment- that is the perfection of vairagya.
